The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has pointed out that the Russian statement about Ukraine's alleged refusal to comply with the Geneva Convention on the treatment of prisoners of war is untrue.

Source: Oleh Nikolenko, Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman, on Facebook

Details: Earlier, the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service said that Ukraine had allegedly brought to Britain's attention that it did not intend to comply with the Geneva Convention on the treatment of prisoners of war.

Nikolenko called the statement disinformation, recalling that Russia had created many fake news stories about Ukraine in the past.

According to Nikolenko: "The Russian Foreign Ministry's statement about the Geneva Convention is another such piece of fake news. It seeks to discredit the relationship between Ukraine and international humanitarian agencies that rescue victims of Russian aggression and try to bring deportees and prisoners home.

Despite the hundreds of pieces of Russian fake news, our state remains committed to its international obligations under international law. The same cannot be said for Russia's indifferent attitude towards its own service personnel who have come to Ukrainian soil: both the living and the fallen.

Background: On 27 March, the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces, Valeriy Zaluzhniy, warned about the online circulation of staged videos made by Russians, in which "Ukrainian military personnel" allegedly mock Russian prisoners of war.
